IAC offers a half day Information Session for prospective intercountry adopters. These sessions are led by IAC staff together with experienced intercountry adopters.
Information Sessions are of most benefit to those considering intercountry adoption who have not yet begun the adoption assessment with their Local Authority or Regional Adoption Agency. The days are open to anyone and you do not have to be referred by your Local Authority or Regional Adoption Agency, although if your adoption agency is a subscriber to IAC you will benefit from a concessionary rate for the session.
It is most beneficial if both partners attend if you are applying jointly to adopt. Single applicants may find it helpful to bring a friend or family member with them too.
If you are adopting through IAC - The Centre for Adoption then you will be required to attend an Information Session prior to requesting an initial interview with a social worker.
The session offers an informal setting in which to explore the procedures, issues and challenges involved in intercountry adoption in the company of other prospective adopters. If you are not adopting through IAC, This is intended to supplement the consultation and advice available through your local authority or independent adoption agency. Country Workshops which run periodically are a further way to add to your knowledge.
Usually twice monthly at IAC’s Training Room in Barnet.
To find out which cost applies to you please call the advice line.
Prior to booking on an information session please speak to the advice line. They will be able to:
Send you an Assessment Information Pack if you reside in a Local Authority with whom IAC has a Service Level Agreement.
Provide guidance on how to research the ‘eligibility criteria’ of overseas countries as there will be a limited time to discuss individual countries at the Information Session;
Advise you on the residency requirements and the intercountry adoption process in the UK
